The Accidental Journey: How Bean Bodega Began
Welcome to the start of our calendar journey! If you're sipping on today's reveal, you're experiencing the very passion that led to this moment. But how did Bean Bodega go from a fun idea to a reality? It all started with a caffeine-fueled rabbit hole: Mystery Coffee League (MCL).
In 2024, after joining the MCL community, I quickly fell in love with the 'Split-the-bag' channel. The concept was brilliant: a budget-friendly way to try high-end light roasts without committing to a full, expensive bag of beans I might not love. It was a shared, fascinating taste journey.
The MCL community itself was the perfect launching pad. The discussions — amicable, inclusive, and detailed — cover every aspect of coffee: from taste profiles, brewing styles to price points. It’s a special place to discuss, even nerd out about a fascinating beverage.
After organizing a few coffee splits myself, I realized something unexpected: I genuinely love the process of packing and shipping coffee to other people. I even naively posted about wanting to do it on a "larger scale". That throwaway comment, meant as a joke, marked the beginning of this winding, wonderful journey.
So, why Bean Bodega? The joke answer is to keep funding my admittedly serious coffee habit. The real reason is simple: to enable people of all tastes and budgets to explore the bountiful world of coffee.
This calendar is a testament to the community that built it. Over the next month, you'll hear the stories of the friends, roasters, and mentors who helped bring this concept to life.
